The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever imitates a people is one of them."
أن النبي ﷺ: قال: من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم.
Bazzar (2966) narrated it from Muhammad bin Marzuq, who said, Abdul-Aziz bin Khattab informed us, who said, Ali bin Ghurab informed us, who said, Hisham bin Hassan informed us, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Ubayda bin Huzaifa, from his father, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ali bin Ghurab, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan when it does not involve shiism, and likewise he was accused of tadlis, except that he explicitly stated the mode of transmission. Bazzar said, "We do not know this hadith to be narrated from Huzaifa as a connected report except through this route, and others besides Ali bin Ghurab have narrated it from Hisham, from Muhammad, from Abu Ubayda, from his father, as a stopped report (mawquf)." I have not come across this route. Moreover, the addition made by a reliable narrator is accepted when it comes to establishing connection.Abu Imran said, Anas looked at the people on Friday and saw cloaks (tayalisa), and said, "It is as if they are right now the Jews of Khaybar." Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4208).And according to Ibn Khuzayma, Anas said, "I have not likened the people today in the masjid, with the abundance of cloaks, to anything except the Jews of Khaybar."This shows that Anas bin Malik disliked the wearing of the tayalisa, because it was a distinctive garment worn by the Jews.
