I asked Abu Saeed Khudri about the lower garment, and he replied, "You have come to one well-informed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The lower garment of the Muslim should reach to the middle of the shin. There is no harm, or no blame upon him, in what is between that and the ankles. Whatever is below the ankles is in the Fire. Whoever drags his lower garment out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him.'"
سألت أبا سعيد الخدري عن الإزار، فقال: على الخبير سقطت، قال رسول الله ﷺ: إزرة المسلم إلى نصف الساق، ولا حرج-أو لا جناح عليه- فيما بينه وبين الكعبين، وما كان أسفل من الكعبين فهو في النار، من جر إزراه بطرا لم ينظر الله إليه.
Malik narrated it in the chapter on clothing (12), from Ala bin Abdul-Rahman, from his father, who said, then he related it as mentioned before.Abu Dawud (4093), Ibn Majah (3573), Ahmad (1101), and Bayhaqi in Shuab (5726) also narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (5447) graded it sahih. All of them narrated it via this route, and its chain of transmission is sahih.Abu Dawud (4075) also narrated it via another route, from Yunus bin Ubayd, from Ubayda Abu Khidash, from Abu Tamima Hujaymi, from Jabir (who is Ibn Sulaym Hujaymi), who said, "I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was sitting with his knees drawn up, wrapped in a cloak, its fringe hanging down over his feet."Ubayda Abu Khidash Hujaymi is unknown, but Qurra bin Khalid corroborated him, saying, "Qurra bin Musa Hujaymi told me, from Sulaym bin Jabir Hujaymi, who said, 'I came to the Prophet ﷺ,'" and he related something similar, adding to it as in the other routes.Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (1182), from Abdullah bin Muhammad, who said, "Wahb bin Jareer told us," who said, "Qurra bin Khalid told us," with his chain of transmission.Qurra bin Khalid is reliable and precise, but his teacher Qurra bin Musa Hujaymi is unknown, though there is no harm in his corroboration of Abu Tamima Hujaymi, who is Tarif bin Mujalid Hujaymi, and he is reliable. Sulaym bin Jabir is Jabir bin Sulaym Hujaymi.The "hudb" of a garment is its edge, next to its hem.
