The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of the muscle of my calf, or his own calf, and said, "This is where the lower garment should reach. If you insist on lower, then below this. But if you insist further, the lower garment has no right to come down to the ankles."
أخذ رسول الله ﷺ بعضلة ساقي- أو ساقه- فقال: هذا موضع الإزار، فإن أبيت فأسفل، فإن أبيت فلا حق للإزار في الكعبين.
Narrated by Tirmidhi (1783), Nasai (5329), Ibn Majah (3572), Ahmad (23243), and Bayhaqi in Shuab (5728), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (5449, 5445), all of them through the route of Abu Ishaq, from Muslim bin Nazir, from Huzaifa, who related it.Muslim bin Nazir is hasan al-hadith. Abu Hatim said of him, "There is no harm in him." Aghar Abu Muslim corroborated him, as found in Ibn Hibban (5448), and he is trustworthy.Ibn Hibban said, "Abu Ishaq heard this report from Muslim bin Nazir and from Aghar Abu Muslim, so both routes are preserved, except that the report of Aghar is more unusual, while the report of Muslim bin Nazir is better known."
