The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me wearing two garments dyed with safflower and said, "These are garments of the disbelievers, so do not wear them."In another narration, he said, "Did your mother instruct you to wear this?"I asked, "Should I wash them?"He replied, "Rather, burn them."
رأى رسول الله ﷺ علي ثوبين معصفرين فقال: إن هذه من ثياب الكفار فلا تلبسهما. وفي رواية فقال: أأمك أمرتك بهذا؟ قلت: اغسلهما؟ قال: بل أحرقهما.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on clothing (2077:27), from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Muaz bin Hisham narrated to us, from his father, from Yahya, Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith narrated to me, that Ibn Madan informed him, that Jubayr bin Nufayr informed him, that Abdullah bin Amr bin As said, and then he mentioned the hadith.Regarding his saying, "Did your mother command you to do this?" Nawawi said, "Its meaning is that this is from the clothing, adornment, and manner of women."As for his saying, "Rather, burn them both," this was said to reproach him severely. Otherwise, it would be permissible for him to clothe his family members in them, since their prohibition applies specifically to men and not to women.
