I came to the Prophet ﷺ wearing shabby clothing.He asked, "Do you have any wealth?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "What kind of wealth?"I said, "Allah has given me camels, sheep, horses, and slaves."He said, "When Allah gives you wealth, let the marks of Allah's blessing and honor upon you be visible."
أتيت النبي ﷺ في ثوب دون، فقال: ألك مال؟ قال: نعم، قال: من أي المال؟ قال: قد أتاني الله من الإبل، والغنم، والخيل، والرقيق، قال: فإذا آتاك الله مالا فلير أثر نعمة الله عليك، وكرامته.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4063), Tirmidhi (2006), and Ahmad (15888). Ibn Hibban (5416) and Hakim (1/24-25) both graded it sahih. All of them narrated it from the hadith of Abu Ishaq, who said, "I heard Abu Ahwas Awf bin Malik bin Nadla, from his father," who said, then he related it. The wording given is that of Abu Dawud, and its chain of transmission is sahih.Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih."Hakim said, "Sahih in its chain of transmission."
