Abu Ala Yazid bin Abdullah Shikhir reported,

One of the Banu Sulaym, whom I believe to have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah تبارك وتعالى tests His servant through what He has given him. Whoever is content with what Allah has allotted to him, Allah will bless it for him and expand it for him, and whoever is not content, it will not be blessed for him."

عن أبي العلاء يزيد بن عبد الله بن الشخير قال

حدثني أحد بني سليم ولا أحسبه إلا قد رأى رسول الله ﷺ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الله تبارك وتعالى يبتلي عبده بما أعطاه، فمن رضي بما قسم الله له، بارك الله له فيه ووسعه، ومن لم يرض لم يبارك له.

Zia-ur-Rahman Azami

Ahmad (20279), Ibn Qani in Mujam Sahabah (1/287–288), and Bayhaqi in Shuab (9725) all narrated it through Yunus bin Ubayd, from Abu Ala Yazid bin Abdullah bin Shikhir, who said, and then he related it.Its chain is sahih, and the anonymity of the companion does not harm it. The exact name of this companion is not known, though some narrations mention that he was Sulaym Sulami. Compilers of works on the companions, such as Ibn Abdul-Barr and others, have mentioned him.
