The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Be mindful of what is forbidden, and you will be the most devout of people. Be content, and you will be the most grateful of people."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: كن ورعا تكن أعبد الناس، وكن قنعا تكن أشكر الناس.
Ibn Shahin narrated it in Targheeb fi Fadail Amal (306), from Abdullah bin Muhammad, from Abu Rabi Zahrani, from Ismail bin Ayyash, from Abu Raja, from Barad bin Sinan, from Makhul, from Wathila bin Asqa, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Ismail bin Ayyash, for his hadith is hasan when narrating from the people of his own region, the people of Syria. His teacher Abu Raja, whose name was Mahriz bin Abdullah Jazari, a client of Hisham bin Abdul-Malik, is likewise hasan al-hadith. Abu Dawud said, "There is no harm in him, a Syrian from whom the Kufans narrate."Ibn Majah (4217) narrated it by another route, from Abu Muawiya, from Abu Raja, with a chain longer than this one, and it is documented in the chapter on what has been said concerning the qualities of good.
