The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Two hungry wolves let loose among a flock of sheep do not cause as much damage to it as a person's greed for wealth and status causes to his religion."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ما ذئبان جائعان أرسلا في غنم بأفسد لها من حرص المرء على المال والشرف لدينه.
Tirmidhi (2376) and Ahmad (15784) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3228), all of them through routes from Zakariya bin Abu Zaida, from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Saad bin Zurara, from a son of Kaab bin Malik Ansari, from his father, and he related it. Its chain is sahih. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." The son of Kaab bin Malik is mentioned in the sources without being named, so it is possible he was Abdullah or Abdul-Rahman, and both are trustworthy among the narrators of the two Sahihs.
