We used to recite during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "If the son of Adam had two valleys of gold and silver, he would seek a third, and nothing fills the belly of Adam except dust, and Allah turns in mercy to whoever repents."
لقد كنا نقرأ على عهد رسول الله ﷺ: لو كان لابن آدم واديان من ذهب وفضة، لابتغى إليهما آخر، ولا يملأ بطن آدم إلا التراب، ويتوب الله على من تاب.
Ahmad (19280), Bazzar in Kashf Astar (3639), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (5/207) all narrated it, all of them through the route of Yusuf bin Suhayb, who said, Habib bin Yasar narrated to me, from Zayd bin Arqam, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Haythami said in Al-Majma (10/243), "Ahmad, Tabarani, and Bazzar narrated it in similar fashion, and its narrators are trustworthy."
