The Prophet ﷺ said, "A man's nobility lies in his religion, his honor lies in his intellect, and his lineage lies in his character."
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال: كرم الرجل دينه، ومروءته عقله وحسبه خلقه.
Ahmad narrated it (8774), Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (483), and Hakim (1/123) narrated it, all through the route of Muslim bin Khalid Zanji, from Ala bin Abdul-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Muslim bin Khalid Zanji, except for its wording in the hadith, "and his worth is his character," for it is established in other hadiths that "worth is wealth."Bazzar narrated it in Kashf Astar (3607), and Abu Yaala (6451), both through the route of Madi bin Sulayman, who said, Ibn Ajlan narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "A man's worth is his wealth, and his generosity is his piety," or he said, "Worth is wealth, and generosity is piety."However, Madi bin Sulayman is Abu Sulayman, the food seller, and he is daif.
