The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you know what this is and what this is?" while throwing two pebbles.They replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "That one is hope, and that one is death."
قال النبي ﷺ: هل تدرون ما هذه وما هذه؟ -ورمى بحصاتين- قالوا: الله ورسوله أعلم، قال: هذاك الأمل وهذاك الأجل.
Tirmidhi (2870) narrated it from Muhammad bin Ismail, who said, Khallad bin Yahya told us, who said, Bashir bin Muhajir told us, who said, Abdullah bin Burayda informed us, from his father, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Bashir bin Muhajir, for his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others and does not bring anything objectionable, and his hadith has firm foundations. Tirmidhi also graded it hasan, saying, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from this angle."
