...narrated from a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ who said that he was a governor in Kufa. One day he delivered a sermon and said, "There is trial in giving out this wealth, and there is trial in withholding it." With these very words the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and delivered his sermon until he finished, then he stepped down.
يحدث عن رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ قال: كان بالكوفة أميرا، قال: فخطب يوما، فقال: إن في إعطاء هذا المال فتنة، وفي إمساكه فتنة، وبذلك قام رسول الله ﷺ في خطبته حتى فرغ، ثم نزل.
Ahmad (20586) narrated it from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us, saying, I heard Ishaq bin Suwayd say, I heard Mutarrif bin Abdullah bin Shikhir narrate from a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Ishaq bin Suwayd is Ibn Hubayra Adawi Basri, whom the imams deemed trustworthy, among them Ahmad, Ibn Main, Nasai, Ibn Saad, and others.Qudai narrated it through this same route in Musnad Shihab (999), as did Ibn Abu Asim in Ahad wal-Mathani (2910). Haythami said in Majma (3/87), "Its narrators are trustworthy."
