Ibrahim bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf reported,

A man from the people of Sham came to Madinah and met the companions of the Prophet ﷺ and greeted them. Abdul-Rahman bin Awf was away on his land at al-Jurf, so the man went out to him. He found him with his cloak set aside and a shovel in his hand, diverting water across his land. When Abdul-Rahman saw him, he put down the shovel and put on his cloak. The man stood before him, greeted him, and said, "I came for one matter, but I have seen something more astonishing. I do not know whether you have learned what we have not learned, or whether something has reached you that has not reached us. Why is it that we are eager for jihad while you hold back from it, and we renounce this world while you desire it, when you are our predecessors and the companions of our Prophet?"Abdul-Rahman bin Awf replied, "We have learned nothing but what you have learned, and nothing has come to us but what has come to you. However, we were tested with hardship and we endured patiently, then we were tested with ease and we did not endure patiently."
