He was lying on a mat with nothing between him and it. Under his head was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibers. Near his feet were tanning leaves piled together, and near his head hung some animal hides. I saw the marks of the mat on the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I wept.He asked, "What makes you weep?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, Khosrau and Caesar enjoy what they have, while you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Are you not pleased that they should have this world and you the Hereafter?"
في حديث اعتزال النبي ﷺ نساءه الطويل:
وإنه لعلي حصير ما بينه وبينه شيء، وتحت رأسه وسادة من أدم حشوها ليف، وإن عند رجليه قرظا مضبورا، وعند رأسه أهبا معلقة، فرأيت أثر الحصير في جنب رسول الله ﷺ، فبكيت فقال: ما يبكيك؟ فقلت: يا رسول الله، إن كسرى وقيصر فيما هما فيه، وأنت رسول الله ﷺ؟ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أما ترضي أن تكون لهما الدنيا ولك الآخرة.
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4913) and Muslim in the Divorce chapter (1479:31), both through the route of Sulayman bin Bilal, from Yahya, Ubayd bin Hunayn told me that he heard Abdullah bin Abbas narrating, he said, and then he related it. The wording given here is that of Muslim, and the hadith in full is mentioned in the tafsir of Surah Tahrim.His saying, "made of adam," means tanned leather, the plural of adeem.His saying, "madburan," means gathered together.His saying, "hanging skins," ahab is the plural of ihab, which is hide before it is tanned. It has also been said that it refers to hide in general.
