I asked Sahl bin Saad, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ever eat fine white bread?"Sahl replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never saw fine white bread from the time Allah sent him as a prophet until Allah took his soul."I then asked, "Did you have sieves during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He answered, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never saw a sieve from the time Allah sent him until Allah took his soul."I asked, "Then how did you eat barley without sifting it?"He said, "We would grind it and blow on it. Whatever husks flew off, flew off, and what remained we moistened with water and ate."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods (5413), from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Yaqub told us, from Abu Hazim, who said, and then he mentioned it.His saying "naqi" means fine white flour bread that has been cleaned. His saying "manakhil" is the plural of minkhal, which is a tool used to sift and refine wheat, barley, and similar grains, and what remains after this sifting and refining is the bran.
