Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla reported,

A man from among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ reported that he heard the Prophet ﷺ mention a hadith, in which he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The angels of the night and the angels of the day gather together at the Asr prayer and the Fajr prayer. The angels of the day ascend at the Asr prayer, leaving the angels of the night with you, and the angels of the night ascend at the Fajr prayer, leaving the angels of the day with you. They say, We came to them while they were praying, and we left them while they were praying, and we left among them a man whom no good ever touched, nor any trial, without his knowing that it was from You. Allah says, Test My servant, or, Increase My servant.'"Sufyan said, "I do not know with which of the two He began."He continued, "So they test him. Then He says, Test him further, and they test him. Then He says, Test him further. Then He says, Test him, though He knows best. They say, The trial has reached its end, our Lord. He says, Increase him, and he is increased. Then He says, Increase him, and he is increased. Then He says, Increase him, and he is increased. Then He says, Increase him, though He knows best. They say, The increase has reached its end, our Lord. He says, How did you leave My servant in trial, and how did you see him in ease? They reply, Our Lord, the most patient of servants and the most grateful. He says, Record My servant among those who do not alter or change, until he meets Me.'"
