Tirmidhi (3550), Ibn Majah (4236), Ibn Hibban (2980), and Hakim (2/427) all narrated it, all through the hadith of Hasan bin Arafah, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Muhammad Muharibi narrated to me, from Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Amr, who is Laythi, for he is hasan al-hadith. Hafiz also graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari (11/240).Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from the hadith of Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ. We do not know it except from this route, though it has been narrated from Abu Hurairah through a route other than this one."That is what Tirmidhi himself narrated (2331) from Ibrahim bin Saeed Jawhari, who said, Muhammad bin Rabia narrated to us, from Kamil Abu Ala, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The lifespan of my nation is from sixty to seventy years." He said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from the hadith of Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, and it has been narrated through more than one route from Abu Hurairah."I say, rather it is gharib with this wording that contains the definitive statement, while the sahih version is the one with the first wording. Abu Salih here is the freedman of Dubaa, whose name was Mina. Ibn Hibban deemed him trustworthy, and Ajli said, "Trustworthy, the Kufans narrated from him." Hafiz, however, weakened his standing in Taqrib.
