The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I tell you who the best among you are? The best among you are those with the longest lives and the finest deeds."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ألا أخبركم بخياركم؟ خياركم أطولكم أعمارا، وأحسنكم أعمالا.
Abd bin Humayd (1086) narrated it, as did Bazzar in Kashf Astar (3585), and Abu Bakr Shafii in Ghaylaniyyat (346), and Hakim graded it sahih (1/3399), all of them through routes from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Jabir, who mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs."Abdul-Aziz bin Majishun narrated it from Ibn Munkadir as mursal, but this mursal transmission does no harm, because those who raised it to the Prophet were a group, among them Zayd bin Aslam according to Hakim, and he is among the trustworthy narrators. Daraqutni was asked about it, and he mentioned the disagreement over Ibn Munkadir and remained silent. See Ilal Daraqutni (3202).
