While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he caught sight of a group of people gathered together and asked, "What has brought these people together?"Someone replied, "They are digging a grave."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became alarmed and rushed ahead of his companions until he reached the grave, where he knelt down beside it. I positioned myself in front of him to see what he was doing, and he wept until his tears moistened the earth.Then he turned to us and said, "My brothers, prepare yourselves for a day like this."
بينما نحن مع رسول الله ﷺ، إذ بصر بجماعة فقال: علام اجتمع عليه هؤلاء؟ قيل: على قبر يحفرونه. قال: ففزع رسول الله ﷺ فبدر بين يدي أصحابه مسرعا، حتى انتهى إلى القبر، فجثا عليه قال: فاستقبلته من بين يديه لأنظر ما يصنع، فبكى حتى بل الثرى من دموعه، ثم أقبل علينا، قال: أي إخواني لمثل اليوم فأعدوا.
Narrated by Imam Ahmad (18601), and this is his wording, and Ibn Majah (4195), and Ibn Abu Shayba (35472), all of them through routes from Abu Raja Abdullah bin Waqid Harawi Khurasani, who said, our teacher Muhammad bin Malik narrated to us, from Bara bin Azib, who said, and then he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Malik Juzjani, who was the freedman and servant of Bara bin Azib. Abu Hatim said of him, "There is no harm in him."
