Tirmidhi (2321), Ibn Majah (4111), and Ahmad (18013) all narrated it through Hammad bin Zayd and Ibn Mubarak, from Mujalid bin Saeed Hamdani, from Qays bin Abu Hazim Hamdani, from Mustawrid bin Shaddad, who related it. Its chain is hasan because of Mujalid bin Saeed, for he became confused in his later years, and Hammad bin Zayd's narration from him was before that confusion occurred, and Bukhari held a favorable opinion of him.Something similar in meaning has been narrated from Abdullah bin Umar, who said, The Messenger of Allah went out one day from his house with some of his companions, and he took one of the roads of Madinah. He passed by the courtyard of some people, where a dead kid goat had been thrown out in their courtyard. The Messenger of Allah stopped and looked at it, then turned to his companions and said, "Do you see this kid goat, how little it meant to its owners that they threw it away like this?" They said, "Yes, o Messenger of Allah." He said, "By Allah, this world means less to Allah than this kid goat means to its owners."This was narrated by Tabarani in al-Kabir (13/279) through several routes from Bakkar bin Suqayr, who said, my father Suqayr narrated to me, from Abdullah bin Umar, who related it. Bakkar bin Suqayr and his father are both unknown, and I have not found anyone who verified them as reliable, except that Ibn Hibban mentioned them among the trustworthy according to his own standard.On this subject there is also what has been narrated from Abdullah bin Rabia, who said, the Prophet was on a journey, and he heard a muezzin say, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah." The Prophet said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah." The muezzin said, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet said, "I bear witness that I am Muhammad the Messenger of Allah." Then the Prophet said, "You will find him to be a shepherd of sheep or a man away from his family." When they descended into the valley, he said, he passed by a discarded kid goat and said, "Do you see how little this means to its owners? This world means less to Allah than this means to its owners."This was narrated by Ahmad (18964), whose wording is given here, and Nasai (665), both through the route of Shuba, from Hakam, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, from Abdullah bin Rabia Sulami, who related it. Its narrators are trustworthy, but it is a mursal report, since Abdullah bin Rabia Sulami was a taabii, as stated by Abu Hatim and others. See al-Marasil (no. 164).On this subject there is also what has been narrated from Ibn Abbas, who said, the Messenger of Allah passed by a dead sheep that its owners had thrown away, and he said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, this world means less to Allah than this means to its owners."This was narrated by Ibn Abu Shayba (35530), Ahmad (3074), and Ibn Abu Asim in al-Zuhd (32), all through the route of Muhammad bin Musab, who said, Uzai narrated to us, from Zuhri, from Ubaydullah, from Ibn Abbas, who related it. Muhammad bin Musab is Qarqasani, whom Ibn Main and others judged daif.
