Ata bin Saaib reported,

I heard Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla while he was at a funeral, and that was the first day I ever came to know him. I heard him say, So-and-so, a man from among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, narrated to us that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Whoever loves to meet Allah , Allah Almighty loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah Almighty, Allah hates to meet him."The people wept and said, "Messenger of Allah, which of us does not hate death?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "That is not what I mean. Rather, Allah has said, 'But if he is one of those brought near, then rest and fragrance and a garden of bliss' [Waqiah 56:88–89]. When that comes to him, he loves to meet Allah Almighty, and Allah loves to meet him even more. And 'but if he is one of the deniers who went astray, then a welcome of scalding water' [Waqiah 56:92–93]. When that is his case, he hates to meet Allah Almighty, and Allah hates to meet him even more."

عن عطاء بن السائب قال

سمعت عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى وهو في جنازة، وذلك أول يوم عرفته فيه، سمعته يقول: ثنا فلان رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ، أنه سمع النبي ﷺ يقول: من أحب لقاء الله عز وجل، أحب الله تعالى لقاءه، ومن كره لقاء الله تعالى، كره الله عز وجل لقاءه. فبكى القوم، فقالوا: يا رسول الله، وأينا لا يكره الموت؟ قال ﷺ: ليس ذلك أعني، ولكن الله تبارك وتعالى قال: {فأما إن كان من المقربين فروح وريحان وجنت نعيم} [سورة الواقعة: ٨٨-٨٩]، فإذا كان عند ذلك أحب لقاء الله تعالى، والله عز وجل لقاءه أحب، {وأما إن كان من المكذبين الضالين فنزل من حميم} [الواقعة: ٩٢-٩٣]، فإذا كان كذلك، كره لقاء الله تعالى، والله عز وجل لقاءه أكره.
