I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is tribal partisanship?"He replied, "That you support your people in wrongdoing."
قلت: يا رسول الله، ما العصبية؟ قال: أن تعين قومك على الظلم.
Abu Dawud (5119) narrated it from Mahmud bin Khalid Dimashqi, who said, Firyabi told us, Salama bin Bishr Dimashqi told us, from the daughter of Wathila bin Asqa, that she heard her father say, and then he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Salama bin Bishr, for he is "acceptable" as stated in Taqrib, and indeed this is so, because Abbad bin Kathir, from the people of Filastin, corroborated him, narrating from a woman called Fusayla, that she heard her father say, and then he related the hadith. It was narrated by Ahmad (16989), Ibn Majah (3949), and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (396), all of them through Ziyad bin Rabi, who said, Abbad bin Kathir told me, and then he related it. Abbad bin Kathir Ramli Filastini is a disputed figure, Ibn Main deemed him reliable while others deemed him daif, but he is not problematic when it comes to corroborating narrations, and this is one of them.As for what has been narrated from Jubayr bin Mutim, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He is not one of us who calls for tribal partisanship, and he is not one of us who fights for tribal partisanship, and he is not one of us who dies for tribal partisanship," it was narrated by Abu Dawud (5121) from Ibn Sarh, who said, Ibn Wahb told us, from Saeed bin Abu Ayub, from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman Makki, meaning Ibn Abu Labiba, from Abdullah bin Abu Sulayman, from Jubayr bin Mutim, and then he related it.Abu Dawud said, "This is mursal, Abdullah bin Abu Sulayman did not hear from Jubayr." I say, and in it is Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Labiba, whom Daraqutni deemed daif.
