He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever takes a stand seeking to be seen and heard by others, Allah the Exalted will expose him for it on the Day of Resurrection and make others hear of it."
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من قام مقام رياء وسمعة راءى الله تعالى به يوم القيامة وسمع.
Ahmad (22322), Bazzar - Kashf Astar (2026), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (22/319) all narrated it through the route of Abdullah bin Yazid Muqri, who said, Haywa narrated to us, Abu Sakhr narrated to us that he heard Makhul saying, Abu Hind Dari narrated to me, and then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abu Sakhr, Humayd bin Ziyad Kharrat, for his narration is hasan when he does not contradict others. The hadith has sahih supporting narrations that indicate he did not err in this hadith. As for Makhul's hearing from Abu Hind Dari, there is disagreement about it. However, Tirmidhi affirmed that he heard from Wathila, Anas, and Abu Hind Dari, and it is said that he did not hear from any of the companions except these three. This is what he said, but others said that his hearing from a number of companions has been documented, and each hadith should be verified in its proper place.
