The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment: an elderly man who commits adultery, a king who lies, and a poor man who is arrogant."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ثلاثة لا يكلمهم الله يوم القيامة، ولا يزكيهم ولهم عذاب أليم: شيخ زان، وملك كذاب، وعائل مستكبر.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Faith (107) via Amash, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned. Bazzar (9776) and Tabarani in al-Awsat (2580, Majma al-Bahrayn) both narrated it via Muhammad bin Umar bin Hayaj, who said, Yahya bin Abdul-Rahman Arhabi told us, who said, Ubayda bin Aswad told us, from Qasim bin Walid, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Three whom Allah hates, a lying ruler, an arrogant destitute person, and a stingy wealthy person."Bazzar said, "We do not know of this hadith being narrated from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, except through this chain."Haythami said in al-Majma (5/248), "It contains Yahya bin Abdul-Rahman Arhabi, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy."I say, Yahya bin Abdul-Rahman Arhabi is hasan al-hadith, except that he narrates unusual reports from Ubayda bin Aswad, as Abu Hatim said, and he has been contradicted regarding the wording of this hadith.
