Abdullah bin Umar and Abdullah bin Amr bin As met at Marwa. They spoke for a while, then Abdullah bin Amr went on his way, while Abdullah bin Umar remained behind, weeping.A man said to him, "What makes you weep, Abu Abdul-Rahman?"He replied, "This man, meaning Abdullah bin Amr, claims that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance, Allah will cast him face-down into the Fire.'"
التقى عبد الله بن عمر وعبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص على المروة، فتحدثا ثم مضى عبد الله بن عمرو، وبقي عبد الله بن عمر يبكي، فقال له رجل: ما يبكيك يا أبا عبد الرحمن؟ قال هذا يعني عبد الله بن عمرو زعم أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من كان في قلبه مثقال حبة من خردل من كبر أكبه الله على وجهه في النار.
Ahmad (7015) and Ibn Abu Dunya in Tawadu (196) both narrated it through the hadith of Marwan bin Shuja Abu Amr al-Jazari, who said, "Ibrahim bin Abu Abla al-Aqeeli, one of the people of Bayt al-Maqdis, narrated to me," from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, who said, then he narrated it as mentioned.Ahmad (2526) and Ibn Abu Shayba (27113) also narrated it, both through the route of Abu Hayan, from his father, who said, "Abdullah bin Amr and Ibn Umar met..." the hadith, which includes, "No person in whose heart is the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance will enter Paradise."Its chain of transmission is also hasan on account of the father of Abu Hayan, who is Saeed bin Hayan al-Taymi al-Kufi. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat, and Ajli deemed him trustworthy, and he has been corroborated.
