Jabir reported, "We were with the Prophet ﷺ when the foul stench of a rotting carcass drifted toward us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'Do you know what this stench is? This is the stench of those who slander the believers.'"
قال كنا مع النبي ﷺ، فارتفعت ريح جيفة منتنة، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أتدرون ما هذه الريح؟ هذه ريح الذين يغتابون المؤمنين.
Ahmad (14784) and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (732) both narrated it through Abdul-Warith bin Saeed, who said, Wasil, the freedman of Abu Uyayna, told us, Khalid bin Arfata told me, from Talha bin Nafi, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, and then he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Khalid bin Arfata, from whom a number of people narrated, including Qatada and others, and Ibn Hibban rated him trustworthy. As for the statement of Abu Hatim and Bazzar that he is majhul, its meaning is that he has few narrations. Likewise, Wasil, the freedman of Abu Uyayna, is hasan al-hadith.
