I imitated a man in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, "It would not please me to imitate someone, even in exchange for such and such."I then said, "Messenger of Allah, Safiyyah is a woman who is..." and I gestured with my hand, indicating that she was short.He replied, "You have spoken a word that, were it mixed with the water of the sea, would taint it."
حكيت للنبي ﷺ رجلا، فقال: ما يسرني أني حكيت رجلا، وأن لي كذا وكذا قال: فقلت: يا رسول الله، إن صفية امرأة- وقال بيده، كأنه يعني قصيرة- فقال: لقد مزجت بكلمة لو مزج بها ماء البحر مزجت.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4875), Tirmidhi (2502, 2503), and Ahmad (25560), all through the route of Sufyan Thawri, who said, Ali bin Aqmar told us, on the authority of Abu Huzaifa (who was one of the companions of Abdullah, and Talha used to narrate from him), on the authority of Ayesha, who said, and then he related it.Its chain of transmission is sahih. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith."
