He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to speak the truth until he is recorded with Allah as truthful. Falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. A man continues to lie until he is recorded with Allah as a liar."
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Manners (6094), and Muslim in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (2607), both from Uthman bin Abu Shayba, who said, Jareer narrated to us, from Mansur, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah bin Masud, who said, and then he mentioned it. Their wording is the same.In a version reported by Muslim, "Hold fast to truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to be truthful and seeks out truthfulness until he is recorded with Allah as truthful. And beware of lying, for lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. A man continues to lie and seeks out lying until he is recorded with Allah as a liar."
