The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever is turned back from a need by an evil omen has committed shirk."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is the expiation for that?"He replied, "Let one of them say, 'O Allah, there is no good except Your good, no omen except Your omen, and no god but You.'"
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من ردته الطيرة من حاجة فقد أشرك قالوا: يا رسول الله ما كفارة ذلك؟ قال: أن يقول أحدهم: اللهم لا خير إلا خيرك، ولا طير إلا طيرك، ولا إله غيرك.
Ahmad (7045) narrated it from Hasan, who said, Ibn Lahia narrated to us, Ibn Hubayra informed us, from Abu Abdul-Rahman Hubli, from Abdullah bin Amr, who said, and then he mentioned the hadith. There is well-known criticism of Ibn Lahia, but Abdullah bin Wahb narrated it in his Jami through three chains of transmission, one of them (658) from Ibn Lahia, from Ubaydullah bin Hubayra, with his chain of transmission, though he did not mention its wording but rather referred to the wording of Fadala bin Ubayd Ansari, as will come later, and it is abridged.However, Ibn Sunni presented its complete wording through this route in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (292). Ibn Wahb was among those who heard from Ibn Lahia before his books were burned, and that is why the scholars graded his chain of transmission hasan. The weakness in Ibn Lahia's hadith is only found in narrations other than those of Abadila from him.
