The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a camel that had been branded on its face and said, "Could the owners of this camel not have kept the fire away from this animal's face?"He said, "So I said, I will brand in the place farthest from its face." And so I branded on the rump near the tail.
مر على رسول الله ﷺ ببعير قد وسم في وجهه فقال: لو أن أهل هذا البعير عزلوا النار عن هذه الدابة؟ قال: فقلت: لأسمن في أبعد مكان من وجهها، قال: فوسمت في عجب الذنب.

Abu Yaala narrated it (651), and Diya narrated it through his route in al-Mukhtarah (838), from Yunus bin Bukayr, from Talha bin Yahya, from Yahya and Isa, the two sons of Talha, from their father, who said, then he related it as before.Its chain is hasan because of Yunus bin Bukayr and Talha bin Yahya, for both of them are hasan in narration.Haythami said in al-Majma (8/109-110), "Abu Yaala narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of sahih."Bazzar also narrated it (948) from Ahmad bin Abdul-Jabbar, from Yunus bin Bukayr, with something similar, adding at the beginning that the Prophet ﷺ forbade branding on the face. He said, "We do not know this hadith to be narrated from Talha except through this route with this chain."The teacher through whom Bazzar narrated is daif.As for his words "ajb al-dhanab," al-ajb, with a silent letter, is the bone at the base of the spine near the rear.
