He disliked that an image be struck, and Ibn Umar said, "The Prophet ﷺ forbade that it be struck."
أنه كره أن تضرب الصورة، وقال ابن عمر: نهى النبي ﷺ أن تضرب.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices and Hunting (5541), from Ubaydullah bin Musa, from Hanzala, from Salim, from Ibn Umar, that he disliked marking the face of an animal. Ibn Umar said, "The Prophet ﷺ forbade..." and then mentioned the hadith.Ibn Umar's statement that goes back to the Prophet is connected by the chain mentioned before it.Bukhari said, "Qutayba followed him in this narration, narrated to us Anqari, from Hanzala, who said, 'The face is marked.'"Qutayba is among Bukhari's teachers, so this narration has the status of a connected one. He mentioned this corroborating report to explain Anqari's statement, "The face is marked," meaning the face of the animal.
