The Prophet ﷺ called the gecko "the little corrupt one," but I did not hear him order that it be killed. Saad bin Abu Waqqas, however, stated that the Prophet ﷺ did order it to be killed.
أن النبي ﷺ و قال للوزغ: الفويسق ولم أسمعه أمر بقتله، وزعم سعد بن أبي وقاص أن النبي ﷺ أمر بقتله.
Bukhari narrated it in The Beginning of Creation (3306), and Muslim in The Book of Greetings (2239), both through the route of Ibn Wahb, who said, Yunus informed me, from Zuhri, from Urwa, from Ayesha, as related above. The wording given is Bukhari's.Regarding his saying, "Saad bin Abu Waqqas claimed," Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari (6/354), "The one saying this could possibly be Urwa, making it connected, since he heard from Saad. It could also be Ayesha, making it a narration of one contemporary about another. Or it could be a statement from Zuhri, making it disconnected. This last possibility is the strongest."I say, rather the second is stronger, for it appears in Sahih Muslim, Harmalah added, she said, "I did not hear him order that he be killed," which is explicit that the speaker was Ayesha. Moreover, the one who commands and forbids is the Prophet ﷺ.
