Suraqa bin Jasham said, "Messenger of Allah, stray animals come to my watering trough. Is there a reward for me if I give them water?"He replied, "Give them water, for there is a reward in watering every living creature with a thirsty liver."
أن سراقة بن جعشم قال: يا رسول الله الضالة ترد على حوضي فهل فيها أجر إن سقيتها قال: اسقها، فإن في كل ذات كبد حرى أجر.

Ibn Hibban (542) narrated it from Ibn Qutayba, who said, Harmala narrated to us, who said, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, who said, Yunus informed us, from Ibn Shihab, from Mahmud bin Rabi, that Suraqa bin Jusham said, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Mahmud bin Rabi is among the youngest of the companions.His saying "harra" follows the pattern of "fala" from "harr" (heat), being the feminine form of "harran," both used for emphasis, meaning that due to its intense heat it had become thirsty and dried up from thirst.
