The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade traveling with the Quran into enemy territory. Wazad added in another narration, "out of fear that the enemy might get hold of it."
نهى رسول الله ﷺ أن يسافر بالقرآن إلى أرض العدو. وزاد في رواية: مخافة أن يناله العدو.
Malik narrated it in the chapter on jihad (7), from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, as already mentioned.Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on jihad and expeditions (2990), and Muslim in the chapter on leadership (1869:92), both through the route of Malik, in the same manner. The addition is found in Muslim, through the route of Layth, from Nafi.In the narration of Ayub, from Nafi, "For I do not feel safe that the enemy might get hold of it."Ayub said, "Indeed the enemy did get hold of it, and they disputed with you by means of it."I say, as for the land of disbelievers who are not at war, there is no harm in traveling with it for the purpose of calling them to it.
