The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you travel in times of plenty, give the camels their share of the land. When you travel in times of drought, hasten your pace upon them. When you stop to rest at night, keep away from the road, for it is the refuge of vermin by night."In another wording, "for it is the path of beasts and the refuge of vermin by night."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا سافرتم في الخصب، فأعطوا الإبل حظها من الأرض، وإذا سافرتم في السنة، فأسرعوا عليها السير، وإذا عرستم بالليل، فاجتنبوا الطريق، فإنها مأوى الهوام بالليل وفي لفظ: فإنها طرق الدواب، ومأوى الهوام بالليل.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Governance (1926), from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Jareer narrated to us, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.He also narrated it through the route of Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad, from Suhayl, in a similar manner, and with the second wording.
