We were with Abu Qatada on the roof of our house when he saw a shooting star. The others looked at it, and Abu Qatada said, "We have been forbidden to follow it with our eyes."
كنا مع أبي قتادة على ظهر بيتنا، فرأى كوكبا انقض، فنظروا إليه، فقال أبو قتادة: إنا قد نهينا أن نتبعه أبصارنا.
Narrated by Ahmad (22549), and this is his wording, and Abdul-Razzaq in his Musannaf (20007), and from his route Hakim (4/284), both of them through routes from Muhammad bin Sirin, who related it. Its isnad is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaikhs."
