The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How will you fare in a time soon to come when people will be sifted thoroughly, leaving only the dregs of humanity? Their covenants and trusts will be in disarray, they will differ among themselves and become like this," and he interlaced his fingers. They asked, "What should we do, Messenger of Allah, when that time comes?"He replied, "Hold fast to what you recognize as good, abandon what you know to be wrong, attend to your own private affairs, and leave aside the concerns of the masses."
Reported by Abu Dawud (4342), Ibn Majah (3957), and Ahmad (7063). Hakim graded it sahih (4/435), all of them by way of Abu Hazim, from Umara bin Amr bin Hazm, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who related it. Hakim said, "This is a hadith with a sahih chain," and it is as he said.
