A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, guide me to a deed which, if I take to it, will admit me to Paradise, and do not give me too much."He replied, "Do not become angry."Another man came to him and said, "Prophet of Allah, guide me to a deed which, if I do it, will admit me to Paradise."He said, "Be one who does good."The man asked, "How will I know that I am doing good?"He answered, "Ask your neighbors. If they say you are doing good, then you are doing good, and if they say you are doing wrong, then you are doing wrong."
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله دلني على عمل إذا أخذت به دخلت الجنة ولا تكثر علي، فقال: لا تغضب، وأتاه رجل آخر فقال: يا نبي الله دلني على عمل إذا عملته دخلت الجنة قال: كن محسنا قال: وكيف أعلم أني محسن؟ فقال: تسأل جيرانك فإن قالوا: إنك محسن فإنك محسن، وإن قالوا: إنك مسيئ فأنت مسئ.

Bazzar (9245), Nasai in his Juz Imlaihi (16), and Hakim (1/378) all narrated it through Husayn bin Waqid, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, who related it. Bazzar said, "We do not know of anyone who narrated this hadith from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, except Husayn bin Waqid."But this is not as he said, for Husayn bin Waqid Marwazi is truthful and was not alone in narrating it from Amash. Rather, he was corroborated in narrating from Amash by Abu Hamza Sukkari, Muhammad bin Maymun, who is trustworthy and of high standing. Daraqutni narrated it in Al-Ilal (10/121) through Ali bin Husayn bin Waqid, who said, Abu Hamza narrated to us, saying, Amash narrated to us, with the same wording. Its chain of transmission is sahih.The hadith has other paths of transmission as well, and the one I have mentioned is the best of them.
