Umar bin Khattab struck a son of his who was given the kunya Abu Isa. Mughira bin Shuba also used the kunya Abu Isa, so Umar said to him, "Is it not enough for you to be called Abu Abdullah?"Mughira replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself gave me this kunya."Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has been forgiven his past and future sins, but we are still among the common folk struggling with our affairs."He continued to be called Abu Abdullah until he died.
Abu Dawud (4963) narrated it from Harun bin Zayd bin Abu Zarqa, who said, my father narrated to us, Hisham bin Saad narrated to us, from Zayd bin Aslam, from his father, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Hisham bin Saad Madani, for his hadith is hasan.Diya narrated it in Mukhtara (86) via the route of Abu Dawud, then said, "This is how Abu Dawud narrated it in his Sunan, but it more closely resembles the Musnad of Mughira bin Shuba, though some narrated it in the Musnad of Umar bin Khattab."I say, the Musnad of Mughira was narrated by Hakim (3/477) via the route of Hisham bin Saad with this chain, from Mughira bin Shuba, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me the kunya Abu Isa," in this abbreviated form.
