Whenever a man came to the Prophet ﷺ bearing a name he disliked, the Prophet ﷺ would change it. Nine of us from Banu Sulaym came to him, the eldest among us being Irbaz bin Sariya, and we all gave him our pledge of allegiance together.
كان النبي ﷺ إذا أتاه الرجل، وله الاسم لا يحبه حوله، ولقد أتيناه تسعة من بني سليم، أكبرنا العرباض بن سارية، فبايعناه جميعا معا.

Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in Al-Ahad wal-Mathani (1365), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (17/119), both of them through routes from Abu Yaman, who said, Ismail bin Ayyash narrated to us, from Damdam bin Zura, from Shurayh bin Ubayd, who said, Utba bin Abdul-Sulami said, and then he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan, because of Ismail bin Ayyash Himsi, who has been criticized, except that his narrations from the people of his own region are acceptable, and this is one of them, since his teacher Damdam bin Zura is also from Homs, and his hadith is hasan when it does not contradict other narrations.
