My name in the days of ignorance was Abd Amr, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named me Abdul-Rahman.
كان اسمي في الجاهلية عبد عمرو فسماني رسول الله ﷺ عبد الرحمن.
Reported by Hakim (4/276) and Diya in Al-Mukhtarah (904), both through routes from Ibrahim bin Saad, who said, my father told me, from his father, from Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, and he related it.Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ibrahim bin Saad is the son of Ibrahim bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf.Hakim said, "A sahih hadith according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs."
