His father came to the Prophet ﷺ, who asked him, "What is your name?"He replied, "Hazn."The Prophet ﷺ said, "You are Sahl."He answered, "I will not change a name my father gave me."Ibn al-Musayyab said, "Roughness has remained among us ever since."
أن أباه جاء إلى النبي ﷺ فقال: ما اسمك؟ قال: حزن، قال: أنت سهل قال: لا أغير اسما سمانيه أبي قال ابن المسيب: فما زالت الحزونة فينا بعد.
Bukhari narrated it in Al-Adab (6190) from Ishaq bin Nasr, he said, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, Maamar informed us, from Zuhri, from Ibn Musayab, from his father, and he mentioned it.Then he narrated it from Ali bin Abdullah, and Mahmud who is Ibn Ghaylan, both of them said, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, Maamar informed us, from Zuhri, from Ibn Musayab, from his father, from his grandfather, with this same account, thereby making it part of the musnad of the grandfather of Saeed bin Musayab, whose name was Hazn bin Abu Wahb.A difference of this kind is not significant, because both Musayab bin Hazn and his father were companions, and it appears from Bukhari's handling that all of this is preserved. As for Saeed's statement, "so the hazuna never left," it means the harshness and hardness that remained in their character.
