Juwayriyah's name was originally Barrah, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed her name to Juwayriyah. He disliked that it be said, "He came out from Barrah."

عن ابن عباس، قال
كانت جويرية اسمها برة، فحول رسول الله ﷺ اسمها جويرية، وكان يكره أن يقال: خرج من عند برة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Manners (2140) via Sufyan, from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman, the freed slave of the family of Talha, from Kurayb, from Ibn Abbas, who said, and then he mentioned it.
