He said, I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he slaughtered a sheep for us. He said, "Do not think," and he did not say, "Do not think that we slaughtered it just for you. Rather, we have sheep, and whenever they reach a hundred, we slaughter one."
قال أتيت النبي ﷺ فذبح لنا شاة وقال: لا تحسبن ولم يقل: لا تحسبن إنا إنما ذبحناها لك، ولكن لناغنم فإذا بلغت مائة ذبحنا شاة.
Ahmad (16382) narrated it from Waki, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu Hashim, Ismail bin Kathir, from Asim bin Laqit bin Sabirah, from his father, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.The hadith has a story behind it, which is what Ahmad (16384) narrated from Abdul-Razzaq, and it is in his Musannaf (80), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (19/215) said, Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said, Ismail bin Kathir Abu Hashim Al-Makki narrated to us, from Asim bin Laqit bin Sabirah, from his father, the delegate of Banu Muntafiq, who said, my companion and I set out until we reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but we did not find him. Ayesha fed us dates and made a porridge for us. Then the Prophet ﷺ came, walking with effort, and said, "Have you eaten anything?" We said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." While we were like that, the shepherd of the sheep drove the flock into the fold, carrying a newborn lamb in his hand. The Prophet said, "Has it given birth?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Slaughter a sheep for us." Then he turned to us and said, "Do not think, and he did not say do not think, that we slaughtered the sheep for your sake alone. We have a hundred sheep and do not want them to increase beyond that. So whenever the shepherd's flock gives birth to a lamb, we order him to slaughter a sheep."Then he said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about wudu." He said, "When you perform wudu, do it thoroughly, and work the water between your fingers, and when you sniff water into your nose, do so thoroughly, unless you are fasting."He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a wife," and he mentioned something about the sharpness of her tongue and how she troubled him. The Prophet said, "Divorce her." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, she has been a long companion and has children." The Prophet said, "Then keep her and instruct her. If there is good in her, she will show it. And do not beat your wife as you would beat your slave-girl."Its chain is sahih, and Abdul-Razzaq's uncertainty does not harm it, for Yahya bin Saeed narrated it from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Ismail bin Kathir narrated to me, from Asim bin Laqit, from his father, without any uncertainty.The story contains additions and omissions, and this goes back to the narrator of the hadith, for he sometimes combines it and sometimes separates it.
