Shaqiq bin Salama reported,

I went with a companion of mine to visit Salman Farsi. Salman said, "Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from going to undue trouble, I would have prepared something special for you."Then he brought out bread and meat. My companion said, "If only there were some thyme to go with our salt."So Salman sent his water vessel and pawned it, then brought back some thyme. When we had finished eating, my companion said, "Praise be to Allah, who has granted us enjoyment of what He has provided for us."Salman replied, "Had you been content with what Allah provided, my water vessel would not now be in pawn."
