The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those who compete against one another in hosting are not to be accepted, nor is their food to be eaten."

Ibn Sammak narrated it in his Juz, as cited in Sahihah (626), and Bayhaqi in Shuab (5667), both through the route of Saeed bin Uthman Ahwazi, who said, Muaz bin Assad Marwazi told us, Ali bin Hasan (he is Ibn Shaqiq Marwazi) told us, from Abu Hamza Sukkari (whose name is Muhammad bin Maymun Marwazi), from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he related it."Muaz bin Assad" was corrupted in Bayhaqi's version to "Mualla bin Assad." The chain is hasan because of Saeed bin Uthman, who is Ibn Bakr, Abu Sahl Ahwazi, who settled in Baghdad and narrated there. Khatib gave his biography in his Tarikh (9/97) and deemed him reliable, and Daraqutni said, "Truthful." The rest of the narrators in the chain are trustworthy.
