The Prophet ﷺ said, "If a guest stays with a people and finds himself denied hospitality in the morning, he may take the equivalent of what would have been his due portion, and there is no blame upon him."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: أيما ضيف نزل بقوم فأصبح الضيف محروما فله أن يأخذ بقدر قراه، ولا حرج عليه.
Ahmad (8948) and Tahawi in Sharh Mushkil (2816, 2817) both narrated it through Muawiya bin Salih, from Abu Talha, from Abu Hurairah, who related it. Its chain is hasan because of Muawiya bin Salih, who is Hadrami, for he is hasan al-hadith, and Abu Talha is Nuaym bin Ziyad Anmari.His statement, "that he should take according to the measure of his hospitality," contains an encouragement to the people of the house not to deprive their guest of food and drink to the extent that satisfies his hunger, for that is part of his right, and whoever withholds it from him has wronged him.
