A narration reports that the Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who serves drink to a group is the last of them to drink."In another wording from him, he said, "We were on a journey and could not find water. Then we came upon some water, and the people began bringing drink to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Each time they brought him a drink, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The one who serves drink to a group is the last of them to drink,' three times, until they had all drunk."
ى، أن النبي ﷺ قال: ساقي القوم آخرهم شربا. وفي لفظ عنه: قال: كنا في سفر، فلم نجد الماء، قال: ثم هجمنا على الماء بعد، قال: فجعلوا يسقون رسول الله ﷺ، فكلما أتوه بالشراب قال رسول الله ﷺ: ساقي القوم آخرهم ثلاث مرات حتى شربوا كلهم.
Abu Dawud (3725) and Ahmad (19121) both narrated it through the route of Shubah, from Abul-Mukhtar of Banu Assad, who said, "I heard Abdullah bin Abu Awfa," and he related it. The first wording is from Abu Dawud, and the second wording is from Ahmad. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abul-Mukhtar, whose name is Sufyan bin Abu Habibah, though it is also said to be Sufyan bin Mukhtar. Ibn Main deemed him trustworthy, and Abu Hatim said, "Truthful," in Al-Jarh wal-Tadil (4/220), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Ath-Thiqat.
