The Prophet ﷺ, on the night he was taken on the night journey, was brought at Iliya two cups, one of wine and one of milk. He looked at them and took the milk. Jibreel said to him, "Praise be to Allah who guided you to the natural way. Had you taken the wine, your nation would have gone astray."
إن النبي ﷺ أتي ليلة أسري به بإيلياء بقدحين من خمر ولبن، فنظر إليهما فأخذ اللبن، فقال له جبريل عليه السلام: الحمد لله الذي هداك للفطرة، لو أخذت الخمر غوت أمتك.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Drinks (5603), and Muslim in the Book of Drinks (168:92), both through the route of Yunus, from Zuhri, who said, Ibn Musayab said, Abu Hurairah said, then he mentioned it. The wording is Muslim's, and Bukhari's wording is abridged.
