The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to breathe three times while drinking from a vessel.

Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Drinks (5631), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Drinks (2028: 122), both from the hadith of Azra bin Thabit al-Ansari, from Thumama bin Abdullah bin Anas, from Anas, and he mentioned it. The wording given is that of Muslim. Bukhari added at the beginning, "Anas used to take breaths over the vessel twice or three times."His saying, "He used to take breaths over the vessel three times," means he would take breaths while drinking three times. As for breathing into the vessel itself, that is forbidden.Among those who disliked drinking in a single breath were Ibn Abbas, Tawus, and Ikrima, and they said, "Drinking in a single breath is the drinking of the devil." However, this statement attributed to Ibn Abbas is not sound, for its chain contains Ibrahim bin Abu Habiba, who is daif and cannot be relied upon, as Ibn Abdul-Barr stated in Tamhid (1/393).
